Can charges of money laundering be brought with other charges?

There are some things that come better when they are paired with something else. Whether it is having a glass of wine with dinner or listening to some music while having friends over, some things just seem to go together for St. Louis residents.

Criminal charges are not one of these things, as multiple charges against a person can present an even more serious set of circumstances than a single charge. Yet, while it may be undesired, there are certain charges that are not typically brought against a person in isolation.

For instance, when it comes to charges for white collar crime, individuals can face charges of money laundering in addition to other charges. Money laundering is not a stand-alone crime, which means it is typically brought in addition to other charges. This makes sense, as money laundering is based on the alleged concealing of the proceeds of some underlying crime.

This does not mean money laundering charges should be taken less seriously than other charges, however. Federal, state and local law enforcement dedicate a great deal of effort into investigating and prosecuting charges of money laundering. These agencies put forth great resources into uncovering alleged schemes of money laundering, which can be complex and technologically sophisticated.

Accordingly, when charges of money laundering are alleged against a person, the individual should understand the severity of the charges and what is being alleged. The individual can then work toward developing an effective defense to the money laundering charges, along with the other related charges that may be brought against the person.
